South African Jews welcome Parliament’s rejection of Israeli invite

South African Jews welcome Parliament's rejection of Israeli invite (10 August 2017) We, as Jewish South Africans, warmly welcome the decision by the Parliament of South Africa to shun a visiting Israeli delegation to the country. We join the chorus of South Africans in saying: “no normal relations with an abnormal Israeli state!”. Like the recommendation to downgrade our embassy in Tel Aviv, this rejection of the Israeli invite is a form of concrete action beyond mere rhetoric that sends a clear message to Israel that for as long as you illegally occupy Palestinian land it will not be business as usual. [...]

South African Jews welcome downgrading of SA Embassy in Israel

We as Jewish South Africans warmly welcome the ANC National Policy Conference resolution and recommendation to downgrade the South African Embassy in Tel Aviv. This is a concrete step beyond rhetoric. Israel must be held accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people and a clear message must be sent that there are no normal relations with an abnormal regime. The ANC National Policy Conference, which ended yesterday, has called for "the downgrading of the SA Embassy in Israel to send a strong message about Israel’s continued illegal occupation of Palestine and the continued human rights abuses against the peoples [...]

South African Churches and Christians welcome ANC move to downgrade Tel Aviv Embassy

South African Churches and Christians welcome ANC move to downgrade Tel Aviv Embassy - Statement by Kairos Southern Africa Kairos Southern Africa, a South African Christian theological organization, joins fellow churches and Christians of South Africa in welcoming the recommendation by branches of the ANC which was adopted by the National Policy Conference of the ANC to downgrade the South African Embassy in Tel Aviv. We believe that this is the sort of bold action, not just words, which is required by the ANC and South African government. Action in the form of sanctions is what is being asked for by Palestinians [...]

ISRAELIS HOLD BARBECUE OUTSIDE PRISON TO TAUNT PALESTINIAN POLITICAL PRISONERS ON HUNGER STRIKE

Israelis have held a barbecue braai outside an Israeli prison to taunt #PalestinianPoliticalPrisoners who are currently on a hunger strike (for 17 days now) protesting their cruel treatment among other issues. The Israelis said that the prisoners “will enjoy breathing in the smoke and suffer from the smell of the meat, and [we will] show them that we will not give in to their whims.” (Click here for video). This Israeli tactic is not new nor an isolated incident, a few years back Israeli prison officials themselves planned to grill meat near the cells of #PalestinianPoliticalPrisoners on hunger strike (click here). Israeli defense [...]

Message from Ronnie Kasrils for #PalestinianPoliticalPrisoners

"Governments, solidarity organisations, and activists can make a huge difference in demanding the just treatment of #PalestinianPoliticalPrisoners whose treatment by the Israeli authorities appears far worse than our comrades fared under apartheid imprisonment. International pressure made a key difference in South Africa. That must be emulated with regards to Palestine."  - Ronnie Kasrils (Former South African government minister, member Palestine Solidarity Committee and BDS).

RIVONIA TRIALIST DENIS GOLDBERG ON THE PALESTINIAN HUNGER STRIKE

RIVONIA TRIALIST DENIS GOLDBERG ON THE PALESTINIAN HUNGER STRIKE 24 APRIL 2017 I call upon Jewish Israelis to support the call for justice for the Palestinian People. Silence in the face of the Administrative Detention of over 500 Palestinians is to be complicit in that injustice. Administrative Detention means that prisoners have not been charged or tried in the courts. Administrative Detention means that officials, presumably in a “security cluster”, have decided that these prisoners are a threat to the security of the Israeli state. Administrative Detention means that the prisoners are held, possibly, on the basis of rumour or malicious gossip. Administrative [...]

National Coalition 4 Palestine on the passing of Ahmed Kathrada

28 March 2017  Today, the National Coalition for Palestine (NC4P) mourns, celebrates and give thanks for the life of one of South Africa's greatest leaders, Ahmed Kathrada. We mourn a staunch friend of the Palestinian struggle and the BDS movement. In 2013 he wrote: “years ago, amidst world-wide acclamation and celebration, apartheid was thrown into the dustbins of history. It is therefore ironic, but greatly distressing that it still flourishes only in one single country - Israel." Whenever Palestinians visited South Africa, his gracious hospitality would convey to them his and South Africa's deep intuition that our freedom and theirs are [...]

World Leaders: Lift the Gaza Blockade

It’s time to increase our momentum – in the fall, world leaders are meeting to discuss next steps on Gaza. This is our chance to call on them to take action to ensure Gaza is completely rebuilt, and that the people of Gaza are treated with dignity. Two years after the conflict, the blockade on Gaza is still imposed, only 30 % of aid pledges have been delivered, 90 % of the homes that were completely destroyed have not been fully rebuilt, and over 75,000 people are still without a home. We can make a difference – the campaign began [...]

Water shortages hit West Bank Palestinians, provoking war of words

By Sabreen Taha | HEBRON, WEST BANK At the peak of a searing summer, Palestinians living in parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank are suffering from severe water shortages, prompting a war of words between Palestinian and Israeli officials over who is responsible. The Palestinians say Israel is preventing them from accessing adequate water at an affordable price, and point out that nearby Israeli settlements have plentiful water supplies. Israel says the Palestinians have been allocated double the amount they were due under an interim 1995 agreement, and have refused to discuss solutions to the current problem. For Palestinian Nidal Younis, the [...]

Our inspiration comes from the indomitable spirit of the women in Gaza, the West Bank, inside the Green Line and in the diaspora.

Gaza has been under an illegal Israeli blockade for the past decade. During this time Israel has launched countless attacks against the besieged population, turning their lives into a continuous struggle for survival. This year internationally renowned women from all over the world will sail to Gaza to break the siege and to highlight the important role Palestinian women have played in resisting the occupation. The boats Amal-Hope and Zaytoona - Olive will set sail from Barcelona on 14 September 2016, and we are asking you to help us get our delegates and team members there! The Women's Boat to Gaza - South Africa [...]

US Slams Israel over Extrajudicial Killings, Torture and Racism

In a rare move by Washington, the 2016 U.S. report on human rights said Israel unlawfully killed over 70 Palestinians and tries minors in military courts. The United States accused Israeli Defense Forces of “excessive use of force” in the Palestinian territories, and “arbitrary arrest and associated torture and abuse, often with impunity,” as part of the U.S. State Department annual report. RELATED: 5 Acts of Latin American Solidarity with Palestine The report, released Wednesday, said of 149 Palestinians killed in 2015 by Israeli security forces in the West Bank only 77 were in the course of attacking Israelis. “There were numerous reports of [...]
